Argyroupoleos Avenue in Strovolos renamed after Dimitris Christofias

On Monday, June 29, 2026, the Municipality of Strovolos held an official ceremony to rename Argyroupoleos Avenue to Dimitris Christofias Avenue. The event, held at Polikleitou Street, was attended by President Nikos Christodoulides, Strovolos Mayor Stavros Stavrinides, and Elsie Christofia, the widow of the late former President. The renaming follows a 2022 decision by the Municipal Council to honor prominent figures including Dimitris Christofias, Glafcos Clerides, Tassos Papadopoulos, and Vassos Lyssarides. President Christodoulides delivered a speech highlighting Christofias’s legacy as former President of the Republic and Speaker of the House. During the event, a protest occurred near the venue, prompting a police presence to ensure order and manage traffic adjustments. Police authorities implemented temporary measures in the area to facilitate the ceremony and address the public demonstration. The avenue, which connects the GSP area with Tseriou Avenue, was officially opened to traffic on June 4.
