Paphos court sentences 36-year-old man to 10 years for drug possession

On June 29, 2026, the Paphos criminal court sentenced a 36-year-old man to 10 years in prison for possessing cannabis with intent to supply. The court also imposed a concurrent three-year sentence for negligent driving, resulting in a total prison term of 10 years. The incident occurred on May 14, 2025, when members of the drug squad (Ykan) attempted to stop the defendant’s vehicle in Paphos. During the stop, the suspect collided with two police vehicles before being arrested. Authorities initially seized a travel bag from the car containing approximately 10.041kg of cannabis and roughly 0.5 grams of a substance believed to be cocaine. Subsequent searches of the defendant’s home and a premises he managed uncovered an additional 2.509kg of cannabis, bringing the total seized amount to 12.55kg.
