Counter-terrorism exercise conducted at Limassol port
On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, a full-scale counter-terrorism exercise named 'Limani Aspida 2026' (Port Shield 2026) took place at the Limassol Port. The event, which occurred between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., was organized by Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol. Participants included various departments of the Cyprus Police, the Ambulance Service, the Fire Service, the Deputy Ministry of Shipping, the Cyprus Ports Authority, and port facilities operated by D.P. World. The exercise was designed to test operational readiness and coordination in response to a simulated terrorist incident affecting a vessel and port facilities. Authorities utilized blank ammunition within designated areas during the simulation. The operation involved increased movement of security forces and emergency services, including areas along the Nicosia-Limassol highway. No public danger was reported, as the event was a planned safety drill compliant with international ISPS code regulations. Local officials urged the public to follow instructions from security personnel during the period.
