Counter-terrorism exercise scheduled at Limassol Port
On Wednesday, July 1, 2026, a counter-terrorism exercise titled Limeniki Aspida 2026 will take place at the Limassol Port. The drill is scheduled to occur between 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Participants include the Cyprus Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Service, Shipping Deputy Ministry, Cyprus Ports Authority, and Eurogate Container Terminal Limassol, which is serving as the lead organizer. The activity will also involve the D.P. World port facilities and the retained area of the Cyprus Ports Authority. The exercise aims to evaluate security measures, verify operational coordination procedures, and enhance cooperation between public and private entities during a mock terrorist incident. During the event, blank ammunition will be used within designated areas. Increased activity from security forces is expected in the port area and along the Nicosia-Limassol highway. Authorities have stated there is no cause for public concern and have requested that the public cooperate with instructions during the exercise.
