Cyprus government affirms commitment to resuming peace talks
President Nikos Christodoulides confirmed that efforts to resume negotiations on the Cyprus issue are ongoing and not frozen. He noted that the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, will travel to Brussels on July 13 to continue discussions during the NATO summit. The government aims to convene an expanded conference to formally announce the resumption of talks. Christodoulides emphasized that these efforts are supported by the UN Secretary-General and the European Union, with a strategic link established between EU-Turkey relations and progress on the Cyprus issue. Additionally, Deputy Minister Irini Piki reiterated that resolving the Cyprus problem remains the government's top priority. Piki highlighted the importance of international support and the clear linkage of Turkey's European prospects to the resolution of the conflict. The administration continues to conduct diplomatic contacts in Nicosia, New York, and Brussels to reach a positive outcome for the reunification of the island.
