Twin infants found dead in France amid heatwave

Two 15-month-old twin girls were found dead in their beds at their family home in Beuvrages, near Valenciennes, northern France. The parents, aged 35 and 32, alerted emergency services around 1:00 p.m. local time, discovering the infants already in a state of rigor mortis. Preliminary investigations suggest the deaths were caused by severe dehydration resulting from high indoor temperatures during a heatwave. The couple has been taken into police custody as authorities investigate them for potential neglect leading to the death of minors. Four other children of the couple, aged 3, 4, 5, and 6, were hospitalized with symptoms of dehydration, though their conditions are not considered life-threatening.
