Religious commemorations for June 29 and 30
On June 29, the Orthodox Church celebrates the feast of Apostles Peter and Paul. Saint Peter, born in Bethsaida, was a fisherman and the brother of Andrew before joining Jesus. Following the Ascension, he preached in Judea, Antioch, Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia. On June 30, the Church commemorates the Synaxis of the twelve Apostles. These include Simon (Peter), Andrew, James, John, Philip, Thomas, Bartholomew (Nathanael), Matthew, James son of Alphaeus, Simon the Zealot, Judas the brother of James, and Matthias. Matthias was selected to replace Judas Iscariot prior to Pentecost. The day also honors Saint Meliton the Martyr and Saint Gervasius of Patras. These dates serve as key liturgical observations in the ecclesiastical calendar.
