Police investigate attempted femicide and suicide in Limassol
On June 30, a 46-year-old woman was critically injured after being shot four times by her 55-year-old husband, a serving police officer, in Limassol. Following the shooting, the officer took his own life. The incident occurred around 6:35 am while the woman was traveling to work, near a primary school. The officer, who served in the port police, had obtained his service firearm early that morning without authorization from a senior officer. Police are conducting a full criminal investigation, reviewing financial data, telecommunications, and CCTV footage to determine the motive. While initial reports speculated on financial issues, the woman’s family has publicly denied these claims, citing a long history of domestic psychological abuse and control. The victim remains in critical condition in a private hospital as authorities continue to interview witnesses from the couple's professional and social circles.
