Police officer shoots wife and commits suicide in Limassol

On the morning of Tuesday, June 30, 2026, a 55-year-old police officer shot and critically wounded his 46-year-old wife before taking his own life with his service weapon in Limassol. The incident occurred around 6:35–6:45 a.m. near the Agios Spyridonas Lyceum in the Zakaki area, specifically on Ilision Street. The officer had reportedly arrived at the scene after briefly leaving his workplace at the Port Police, where he had checked out his service weapon. Witnesses reported that a verbal altercation occurred between the couple, during which the woman unsuccessfully signaled for help to a passing motorist. The assailant threatened the bystander with his firearm before firing multiple shots at his wife, striking her in the head and body. The victim, who was initially intubated at Limassol General Hospital and later moved to a private clinic for surgery, remains in extremely critical condition. The couple reportedly had four children between them, including an underage daughter. Police are currently investigating financial disputes as a potential motive for the attack.
