Police officer shoots wife and dies by suicide in Limassol

On the morning of June 30, 2026, a police officer shot his wife and died by suicide in Zakaki, Limassol. The officer, who had started his shift at 06:07 and was issued his service weapon, left his post briefly, claiming he would return in five minutes. He met his wife outside a local school, where an eyewitness reported a heated argument inside a car. The witness stated that the officer strangled the woman and threatened them when they attempted to intervene. Following the confrontation, the officer shot his wife multiple times before turning the gun on himself. The woman was transported to Limassol General Hospital in critical condition, where she remains in the intensive care unit. Police Director Stelios Aristidou confirmed the investigation is ongoing and that statements are being collected from witnesses and colleagues. There were no prior reports of aggressive behavior on the officer's record.
