Attempted assassination of Vadym Yermolaiev in Monaco

On the night of June 29, 2026, an explosive device detonated at the entrance of a residential building in Monaco, located near the French border. The blast injured three people, including Ukrainian-born businessman Vadym Yermolaiev, his partner, and her 13-year-old son. Monaco authorities have officially classified the event as an attempted murder rather than a terrorist act. Security footage captured a suspect placing a bag containing an explosive device with shrapnel and then fleeing toward the French commune of Beausoleil. While Yermolaiev is no longer in danger, his partner remains hospitalized in critical condition. Yermolaiev, a prominent real estate investor known for the Alef Group, holds Cypriot citizenship and was previously sanctioned by Ukraine in 2023 over alleged ties to Russian-occupied Crimea. Investigations by local authorities, supported by French police and helicopters, are currently ongoing to identify the perpetrator, with potential links being explored to organized crime or illicit call center operations.
