Memorial initiative to commemorate Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou
The Isaac-Solomou Memorial Initiative has announced a commemorative event marking the 30th anniversary of the deaths of Tasos Isaac and Solomos Solomou, who were killed in August 1996 in the Deryneia buffer zone during anti-occupation protests. Spokesperson Alekos Michailidis stated that a group of 40 motorcyclists will travel to Greece to honor the victims. The tour, scheduled from July 7 to July 17, will begin with a departure from Limassol to Piraeus. The itinerary includes symbolic stops in the Peloponnese, specifically at Karavas in Kythira, Kyrenia in Achaia, and Salamina in Attica, chosen for their namesakes in occupied Cyprus. The participants will also visit Rhodes and Kastellorizo before returning to Athens and then Cyprus. The ten-day event includes ceremonies for the naming of streets after Isaac and Solomou in various locations to preserve the memory of the two men. The initiative emphasizes the message of liberation for Cyprus from Turkish occupation.
