Murder trial of suspect in the death of 22-year-old student Shahruar Ahmed Emon set for September 24
The suspect who confessed to the murder of 22-year-old Bangladeshi student Shahruar Ahmed Emon has been referred to the Larnaca Permanent Assize Court for trial on September 24. The accused faces seven charges, including premeditated murder, conspiracy, kidnapping, extortion, and illegal residence in the Republic of Cyprus. The incident occurred in June in the Kofinou area of Larnaca. According to forensic findings, the victim sustained multiple knife wounds in the shoulder and neck areas; one report also mentions strangulation. The two individuals reportedly met on a bus on June 7 and exchanged contact details. Prosecution claims the suspect lured the victim on June 11 with the false promise of employment at a daily wage of 50 euros. Conflicting accounts exist regarding the motive, with the suspect alleging the victim insulted his financial status, while investigators continue to examine all evidence. The victim had been in the country for three months as a private student.
