Apollon Limassol signs defender Emanuel Aiwu and prepares for Conference League match
Apollon Limassol has officially signed 25-year-old Austrian center-back Emanuel Aiwu from Sturm Graz on a contract running until May 2029. This signing comes after the club faced defensive challenges due to health issues involving Connor Goldson. Aiwu, who previously played for Admira Wacker, Rapid Vienna, Cremonese, and Birmingham City, brings experience from multiple European leagues. The team is currently focusing on their upcoming UEFA Conference League second qualifying round match against Dila Gori, with the first leg in Georgia on July 23 and the return leg in Limassol on July 28. Coach Hernan Losada has expressed a need for increased efficiency in front of the goal following the conclusion of the preseason friendlies, where the team achieved three wins and one draw without conceding any goals. Key players like Alen Ozbolt are currently racing to recover for the European fixtures. There were also unconfirmed reports earlier in the summer linking Aiwu to a potential move to Maccabi Haifa.
