FIFA increases 2026 World Cup prize pool to record $871 million
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, marks a historic milestone as the first tournament to feature 48 participating teams. FIFA has increased the total prize pool to $871 million, which is approximately 800 million euros, representing a 15% increase over original projections. This adjustment makes it the largest prize pool in the tournament's history, driven by growth in broadcasting rights, sponsorships, and commercial agreements. Participating nations receive guaranteed funding upon qualification, with performance-based bonuses increasing throughout the knockout stages. The champion of the 2026 tournament is set to receive approximately 46 million euros. The runner-up will earn 30 million euros, while the third and fourth-placed teams are allocated 27 million and 25 million euros, respectively. The funds are categorized into performance bonuses and guaranteed financial support for all qualified nations.
