Protests occur outside Albanian parliament over tourism development law

On the current date, protesters gathered outside the Parliament in Tirana during a plenary session. Demonstrators are demanding the repeal of a law that facilitates the construction of luxury hotels in protected areas, a measure linked to a project involving Jared Kushner. These daily protests have been ongoing since May 30, with participants also calling for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. During the demonstration, some individuals threw eggs at the cars of parliament members and attempted to breach a police cordon. According to reports from the Agence France-Presse and social media footage, police detained at least two individuals using force. Albania's Ombudsman, Endri Shabani, has announced an investigation into the conduct of the police. Shabani characterized the police response as disproportionate and emphasized that the right to protest is constitutionally protected.
