Cyprus launches national ground displacement monitoring service

The Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) has launched the Cyprus Ground Motion Service (CyGMS) to provide continuous data on land displacement across the nation. Coordinated by Assistant Professor Christodoulos Danezis of the Cyprus Geohazards Observatory (CyGOS), the service utilizes satellite and ground-based observations to track landslides, subsidence, and infrastructure deformations. The platform is intended to assist government agencies, infrastructure managers, researchers, and private entities in making evidence-based decisions regarding land use and safety. Data are made available through the official portal at cygms.cut.ac.cy for the entire territory of the Republic of Cyprus. The initiative represents the first systematic, country-wide effort to monitor geological stability in Cyprus. According to the project organizers, this development is a result of long-term investments in scientific infrastructure. The service aims to improve disaster prevention and support the long-term planning of critical national infrastructure.
