Mexico advances to the round of 16 after defeating Ecuador 2-0
The Mexican national football team secured a 2-0 victory against Ecuador at the Azteca Stadium, successfully advancing to the round of 16 of the World Cup. Julian Quinones opened the scoring in the 22nd minute following an assist from Alvarado, and Raul Jimenez extended the lead in the 31st minute after a one-two combination with Quinones. Mexico, managed by Javier Aguirre, maintained control throughout the match, while Ecuador struggled to convert their limited opportunities, including a notable effort from Yeboah in the 18th minute. Mexico remains unbeaten in the tournament with four consecutive wins. Orbelin Pineda of AEK Athens entered the match as a substitute in the 80th minute and nearly scored in stoppage time. In the next stage, Mexico is scheduled to face the winner of the England versus Democratic Republic of the Congo match. The upcoming round of 16 game will also take place at the Azteca Stadium.
