British actor Michael Byrne dies at age 82

British actor Michael Byrne passed away on June 20, 2026, at the age of 82. Born in London on November 7, 1943, he maintained a career spanning nearly 60 years. He began his professional acting journey in 1963 with the National Theatre Company under Laurence Olivier at the Old Vic in London. Throughout his career, he performed in numerous stage productions, including The Cherry Orchard, The Seagull, and Romeo and Juliet. His filmography includes appearances in Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Apt Pupil, where he acted alongside Sir Ian McKellen. He is widely recognized for his roles as Colonel Vogel in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and as Gellert Grindelwald in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1. Additionally, he appeared in the television series Coronation Street as Ted Page. The official cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
