Diko leadership meets President Christodoulides to discuss government cooperation
On Wednesday, the leadership of the Democratic Party (Diko) met with President Nikos Christodoulides for approximately two hours to discuss their ongoing cooperation within the government. Diko leader Nikolas Papadopoulos requested a stronger role for his party, including four ministries and two deputy ministries, as well as greater influence in the appointment of semi-governmental organization boards. Papadopoulos argued that Diko is currently the only parliamentary party supporting the government and urged for a cabinet reshuffle. In response, President Christodoulides expressed dissatisfaction regarding the premature leak of a private letter sent by Papadopoulos before it reached his office. While sources indicate Diko seeks to displace Edek and Dipa from their current government positions, the government maintains that cooperation with all three partners remains intact. No definitive agreements were reached during the meeting, and both sides have scheduled a follow-up discussion for the second ten days of July. Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis emphasized that the meeting was part of routine consultations and not an extraordinary event.
