Eurobarometer survey results on European Union role in Cyprus

A special Eurobarometer survey published by the European Parliament on Wednesday indicates significant public support in Cyprus for an expanded role for the European Union. The data, collected between April 14 and May 3, 2026, shows that 92% of Cypriot respondents want the EU to play a more important role in the future, compared to a 68% average across the 27 member states. Conversely, 56% of Cypriots expressed uncertainty regarding future prospects, higher than the 44% average recorded across the EU. The survey included a sample of 504 individuals in Cyprus and 26,421 participants across the entire EU. Data collection was conducted through face-to-face interviews, including computer-assisted video interviews in specific countries. The study spanned five thematic areas: future prospects, handling global challenges, quality of life, citizen priorities, and attitudes toward the European Union and Parliament. While the findings highlight a desire for stronger EU action, they simultaneously document elevated levels of uncertainty among the Cypriot population.
