New regulations for learner motorcycle drivers and permit validity in Cyprus
Effective July 1, the Cyprus Department of Road Transport has implemented new regulations regarding learner motorcycle permits. Learners are now permitted to ride on public roads strictly for training purposes under the supervision of a licensed instructor. The instructor must follow the learner on a separate vehicle of the same category. Exemptions apply during official driving tests and training sessions conducted by the Police, Fire Service, or the National Guard. In all instances, the use of mandatory protective equipment as specified in Article 16 of the Driving License Law N. 94(I)/2001 is required. Additionally, the validity period for all learner driver permits has been standardized to two years. The Department of Road Transport encourages permit holders to schedule their practical examinations in advance to avoid potential delays.
