UN envoy Maria Angela Holguin updates on Cyprus talks

UN Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin has issued a statement following her visit to Cyprus between June 7 and 14, where she held separate meetings with President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot representative Tufan Erhurman. Holguin also met with Antonio Guterres in New York last week to discuss the mediation process. Guterres remains committed to finding a mutually beneficial solution for all Cypriots and is currently evaluating the next steps to encourage both sides to take concrete actions toward a final settlement. Holguin emphasized that the goal is not merely to restart negotiations, but to ensure that any new effort leads to a successful outcome. During her regional tour, she held talks with officials in Athens and Ankara, which she described as frank and clear. She noted that international actors, including the European Union, could play a vital role in fostering an environment conducive to progress. Holguin warned that the current status quo can no longer be considered a guarantee of stability.
