Cyprus retail trade turnover performance in May 2026
According to the Statistical Service of Cyprus, the retail trade turnover value index increased by 9.8% in May 2026 compared to the same month in 2025. The volume index also saw an increase of 7.5% over the same period. In terms of value, motor fuels recorded the highest growth at 20.9%, followed by household equipment at 12% and recreational goods at 10.1%. Regarding sales volume, clothing and footwear led with a 19.4% increase, while information and communication equipment grew by 17.6%. Conversely, the volume of motor fuel sales declined by 3.8%. Additionally, a decrease of 2.1% was noted in the volume of sales for flowers, plants, watches, jewelry, optical goods, and second-hand items. For the period from January to May 2026, the cumulative retail value index rose by 7.1%, and the volume index grew by 5.9%. These figures reflect broad retail activity across various economic sectors in the country.
