Rockup Messenger marketing campaign investigation in Limassol
During the first half of 2026, the company Rockup Messenger conducted a series of advertising campaigns in Limassol to promote its community networking application. The tests included digital advertisements, QR code flyers, handwritten notes, and materials mimicking official government notices. The government-style concept, branded as the "Ministry of Apps," aimed to spark public curiosity. Rockup stated that these materials were clearly marked as advertisements to avoid deception and did not solicit financial information. Despite public debate regarding the nature of the materials, the company maintained that the purpose was purely to build community. The Cyprus Police were informed of these activities. A subsequent investigation by AlphaNews found no evidence of criminal conduct by the company. The campaign is currently being discussed for the ethical concerns it raised regarding advertising tactics.
