Police issue warning regarding fraudulent phone calls in Cyprus
Cypriot authorities have issued a public warning regarding an increase in fraudulent phone calls originating from numbers appearing to be local. Victims report receiving a pre-recorded message claiming to be from the National Police Security Office, which alleges that the recipient's identity is linked to suspicious activities. Following the automated message, the call is transferred to an individual posing as an officer. This person claims that bank accounts have been opened in the victim's name at local financial institutions and are being used for large money transfers. The perpetrators then attempt to solicit personal data and sensitive banking credentials from the victims. Law enforcement officials have advised the public to remain vigilant and avoid disclosing any private information during such calls. They recommend terminating these calls immediately and verifying any claims through the official contact channels of the relevant organizations.
