Parliamentary committee discusses delays in KtiZO housing plan and Turkish Cypriot property management

On Tuesday, the Parliamentary Committee on Refugees reviewed significant delays in the implementation of the KtiZO plan, which aims to rebuild housing for displaced persons. Committee members expressed concern over the slow progress in constructing new apartment buildings and the presence of dangerous, unsealed structures, some of which are occupied illegally. Nikos Kettiros, Chairman of the Committee, highlighted issues regarding funding from the Central Agency for Equal Distribution of Burdens. The Committee expects the funding request to reach the Board of Directors on July 9 before being forwarded to the Ministry of Finance. To date, approximately 4.34 million euros have been allocated for rental subsidies. An estimated 6 million euros are required to cover the contributions of the beneficiaries. Additionally, the committee addressed ongoing inefficiencies in the administration of Turkish Cypriot properties. Lawmakers emphasized the urgent need for increased transparency and accelerated procedures to resolve these long-standing issues.
