Cyprus government to submit pension reform bill to parliament in September 2026

Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Marinos Mousiouttas, announced that the government will submit a major pension reform bill to the House of Representatives on September 20, 2026. The reform, a priority for President Nikos Christodoulides, is scheduled for implementation starting January 1, 2027. The government intends to provide the draft bill to social partners during the second ten days of July to facilitate discussions. Minister Mousiouttas explained that the submission date was moved from July to September to allow more time for dialogue. Regardless of whether a final agreement is reached with all stakeholders by that time, the government will proceed with the parliamentary process. The ministry also plans to hold meetings with parliamentary parties to clarify technical details provided by actuaries. While the government hopes for consensus, the Minister stated that the legislative branch will have the final say on the reform.
