Donald Trump makes first flight on donated Qatari Boeing 747
On Wednesday, July 1, Donald Trump conducted his first flight on a new presidential aircraft donated by the government of Qatar. The aircraft, a refurbished Boeing 747 with a reported value of 400 million dollars, features a custom exterior of red, white, dark blue, and gold. Trump used the jet to travel to Mentora, North Dakota, to attend events celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. While the President praised the gift from Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the donation has sparked concerns regarding ethics, national security, and legal implications for the presidency. The U.S. Air Force stated that the aircraft has been retrofitted with necessary security and communication systems to meet presidential standards within five months. The plane will serve as an interim Air Force One until a new model is completed by Boeing in approximately two years. Trump defended the acquisition, claiming it saved significant taxpayer money compared to traditional procurement methods.
