Woman survives cardiac arrest after lightning strike in Georgia

On May 6, 54-year-old Mary 'Gina' Mena suffered cardiac arrest after a lightning strike during a storm in Cobb County, Georgia. The incident occurred in the parking lot of St. Joseph Catholic Church as she was entering her vehicle. Surveillance footage shows a flash covering the area while lightning struck a nearby tree, splitting it in two. The resulting shockwave affected her car and caused her to lose consciousness immediately. Emergency responders arriving at the scene found her without a pulse or breathing. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while exposed to heavy rain before transporting her to a hospital. Mena successfully survived the incident and has since recovered.
