63-year-old man detained in Zygi for drug-related offenses

On July 2, 2026, the Larnaca District Court ordered the seven-day detention of a 63-year-old man arrested in the Zygi area. The operation, conducted by the Anti-Narcotics Service (YKAN), began when officers stopped the suspect's vehicle on the Zygi-Mari road and discovered approximately 500 grams of cannabis. A subsequent search of the suspect's agricultural land and premises in Zygi led to the seizure of another 1.5 kilograms of cannabis, which had been hidden in a metal dog cage. Following the suspect's written consent, a search of his residence resulted in the recovery of 339 shotgun cartridges. Authorities also confiscated two mobile phones and 743 euros in cash to determine if the funds are linked to illegal activities. The Larnaca unit of the YKAN continues to investigate the case.
