Cyprus hosts talks on post-war administration of Gaza
The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) recently concluded a two-day series of meetings in Ayia Napa, Cyprus, focusing on humanitarian aid and post-war governance frameworks. Participants included representatives from the US-led Board of Peace, the Office of the High Representative for Gaza led by Nickolay Mladenov, and the Tony Blair Institute. Discussions centered on immediate reconstruction projects, security mechanisms, and financial accountability to ensure transparency for international donors. The committee expressed support for a 20-point US proposal associated with President Donald Trump, which outlines a transitional phase for the enclave. While the initiative aims to remove Hamas from power and establish temporary administrative zones, it faces significant political opposition and concerns regarding security risks and financial feasibility. Israeli political circles have raised questions about the sequencing of reconstruction efforts, fearing that premature implementation could inadvertently strengthen Hamas. Furthermore, leaked documents have highlighted debates surrounding legal immunity for contractors and the overarching authority of the proposed board.
