Tottenham Hotspur confirms record-breaking transfer activity
Tottenham Hotspur officially announced the signing of 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder Matheus Fernandes from West Ham. The transfer fee is reported at 98.6 million euros, marking a new record for the club. Fernandes, who previously played for Sporting and Southampton, recorded four goals and four assists in 38 appearances for West Ham. Additionally, reports indicate that Tottenham has reached a separate agreement with Newcastle United for the acquisition of Italian international Sandro Tonali. This potential deal is valued at approximately 100 million pounds, or 115 million euros, which would surpass the Fernandes fee. While the club confirmed the Fernandes deal on July 2, terms regarding the contract duration were not disclosed. Tottenham aims to strengthen its squad following a difficult previous season. These moves represent a significant financial commitment by the North London side to improve their competitive standing in domestic and European competitions.
