Temporary waste management measures in Limassol due to Vati station upgrades
The Water Development Department and the Department of Environment have implemented temporary waste management measures in the Limassol district. These actions respond to professional septic tank cleaners' strikes caused by reduced capacity at the Vati wastewater treatment station, which is currently undergoing upgrades. To manage the overflow, the Moni wastewater treatment station is accepting additional waste on specific days, and the Vathia Gonia station remains available for transporters. Professional cleaners have been instructed to coordinate waste discharges through the Limassol District Local Government Organization (EOA) network to ensure system stability. The authorities state that these issues are temporary and are being closely monitored to ensure environmental safety. The upgrade project at the Vati station is scheduled for completion in December, at which point normal operations will be fully restored. Ongoing consultations are continuing between state departments and the cleaners to find further solutions during this transition period.
