Interior Minister calls for immediate legislative review of building and civil protection bills

On Thursday, Cyprus Interior Minister Konstantinos Ioannou met with the Parliamentary Interior Committee to urge the immediate, article-by-article review of three major bills. The first legislative priority concerns dangerous buildings, with Ioannou noting that while District Local Government Organisations currently have authority, the legal framework requires improvement based on prior proposals developed with former MP Marinos Moustiouttas. The second bill addresses jointly-owned properties to resolve disputes, unpaid communal fees, and maintenance issues by introducing mandatory reserve funds, strengthened management committees, and compulsory insurance. The third priority is the restructuring of civil protection, which includes establishing a General Directorate of Civil Protection under the Ministry of Interior. This meeting marked the first discussion between the Ministry and the newly composed parliamentary committee. The Minister emphasized that these measures are intended to address daily issues faced by citizens and expressed his readiness for close cooperation with the Parliament.
