Cabinet appoints new board of directors for the natural gas public company

The Cyprus Council of Ministers has officially appointed a new nine-member Board of Directors for the Natural Gas Public Company (DEFA). This decision follows reports of presidential dissatisfaction with the previous board regarding delays in the Vassiliko LNG terminal project. Giorgos Pistentis has been appointed as the new president, while Paris Konstantinou will serve as the vice president. The board also includes Thomas Sepos, Konstantinos Danos, Kyriakos Stylianou, Nikos Solomou, Konstantinos Pittas, Andreas Zachariadis, and Kyriakos Iordanou. Only three members from the previous administration, specifically Sepos, Danos, and the Ministry of Finance Director-General Zachariadis, were retained. While official sources emphasize the formal appointment process, some reports suggest that the removal of former members, such as Giorgos Asiakalis, could result in a loss of institutional experience. The new leadership takes over as the pre-selection process for contractors to complete the terminal nears its final stage.
