Funeral ceremonies for Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei held in Tehran

Funeral events for the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed on February 28 during a joint US-Israeli strike at the onset of a four-month conflict, are underway in Tehran. The ceremonies, spanning one week, include public processions through the city toward Azadi Square. Three of Khamenei's sons—Mostafa, Masoud, and Meysam—attended public prayers at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla, alongside senior officials including President Masoud Pezeshkian and military leaders. Notably, the successor to the Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, remained absent, fueling reports that he was severely injured in the same attack that claimed his father and four other family members, including a daughter and a 14-month-old granddaughter. While authorities maintain he is alive, his prolonged public absence has led to speculation regarding his condition. Meanwhile, representatives from Hamas and Hezbollah met with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi during the funeral proceedings. Authorities have urged public order to prevent crowd-related tragedies during the large-scale processions.
