Pedro Martinez leaves Valencia to replace Sergio Scariolo as Real Madrid head coach

Valencia head coach Pedro Martinez has officially triggered a release clause in his contract to depart the club. During his second tenure, which began in the summer of 2024, Martinez secured multiple titles, including the 2025 Supercopa Endesa. He had previously extended his contract in March 2026 to run through the 2027/28 season. Simultaneously, Real Madrid has announced the mutual termination of its agreement with Sergio Scariolo. While reports indicate that Real Madrid will pay a one-million-euro release clause for Martinez, the total cost of the transition—including the remainder of Scariolo's contract—is estimated at approximately 7 million euros. Martinez has signed a three-year deal with the Madrid club. Scariolo leaves after guiding Real Madrid to the Euroleague final without securing a major trophy this season.
