Cyprus government reiterates goal for informal multilateral meeting
Cyprus Government Spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that the government remains committed to convening an informal multilateral meeting regarding the Cyprus issue this summer. The spokesperson welcomed the recent written statement from Maria Angela Holguin, the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, which acknowledges the role of the European Union in supporting UN efforts. This development follows a joint declaration by EU officials and the Turkish Foreign Minister expressing support for the UN process. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, with further discussions expected on the sidelines of the upcoming NATO summit, where the UN Secretary-General and EU leadership will be present. Maria Angela Holguin is scheduled to travel to Brussels on July 13 to continue consultations. The government remains in constant contact with the UN and the EU to facilitate progress toward the proposed meeting.
