Ilias Anagnostopoulos to replace Christos Mylonopoulos on mafia state investigative team
Christos Mylonopoulos has resigned from the five-member independent investigative team appointed to probe findings related to the 'Mafia State' case. His resignation followed significant public criticism regarding a potential conflict of interest, as he had previously represented Michalis Zolotas, a figure linked to the Focus case, during extradition proceedings. While the government initially defended the appointment, stating Mylonopoulos had disclosed the relationship and would abstain from relevant investigation segments, the criticism persisted. The government intends to appoint Ilias Anagnostopoulos, a distinguished criminal law professor, as his replacement. The nomination is expected to be approved at the next Council of Ministers meeting. The investigative team, led by Vasilios Skouris, also includes Sotiris Liasidis, Nicolas Koursaris, and Dimitris Tsolakidis. Government sources confirm that despite the leadership change, preparatory work, including securing facilities and staff, is proceeding without delay.
