Israel, Cyprus, and the EU initiate cooperation on artificial intelligence
In late June, a regional event titled 'AI for Responsible Innovation and Shared Prosperity: The Regional Innovation Bridge' was held in Tel Aviv. The summit, organized by the EU Delegation to Israel, the Embassy of Cyprus, Microsoft Israel, and the startup Generative AI for Good, focused on artificial intelligence development. Cypriot Ambassador to Israel, Kornelios Korneliou, emphasized that individual nations cannot manage AI challenges alone, positioning Cyprus as a strategic bridge between Europe and the Middle East. The discussions highlighted the European Union's AI Act as a primary regulatory framework. Participants stressed the necessity of integrating transparency, accountability, and human oversight into AI systems from the initial design phase. Speakers identified potential applications for the technology in healthcare, cybersecurity, public services, and industry. The initiative aims to combine Israeli technological expertise with EU funding and infrastructure to accelerate regional progress.
