Prominent Cypriot journalist Giorgos Tsalakos has passed away

Giorgos Tsalakos, a prominent figure in Greek and Cypriot journalism, has died following a battle with cancer. Born in Lysi, Famagusta, he studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and began his career in Greece, working for the magazine 'Anti', the newspaper 'Exormisi', and PASOK's press office. From 1981 to 1990, he held positions at the Greek public broadcaster ERT, including political correspondent and news director. Upon returning to Cyprus in 1992, he played a pivotal role in establishing and developing major private television stations, including ANT1 Cyprus, Alpha Cyprus, and Omega Channel. Tsalakos served as chairman of the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) from 2013 to 2015 and was a board member of the Cyprus News Agency. He was also an author, known for his work on the history of Spyros Kyprianou. Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides issued a formal statement expressing his condolences and praising Tsalakos's professional ethics and contribution to responsible journalism.
