Diplomatic tension escalates between Turkey and Israel

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan recently warned that Middle East peace efforts cannot succeed without regional participation, accusing the Israeli government of attempting to undermine the US-Iran agreement. During meetings in Istanbul, Erdogan harshly criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's administration, describing it as 'addicted to war.' Simultaneously, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated in a CNN Turk interview that Israel's policies have become a burden that humanity can no longer bear. These remarks prompted a sharp reaction from Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, who denounced the comments as 'sickening' and 'textbook incitement to genocide' on social media platform X. The diplomatic friction was further fueled by Israel's formal recognition of the Armenian Genocide, a move the Turkish government dismissed as a political retaliatory tactic. Additionally, Saar criticized EU High Representative Kaja Kallas for failing to address human rights concerns in Turkey during her June 30 meeting with Erdogan in Ankara. The ongoing verbal confrontation coincides with preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara scheduled for July 7-8.
