New decree on foot-and-mouth disease measures expected in Cyprus
Dimitris Epaminondas, President of the Pancyprian Veterinary Association and member of the epidemiological team, announced that a new decree easing measures against foot-and-mouth disease is expected to be issued today. This decision follows an evaluation of requests from livestock organizations and reflects a positive epidemiological outlook. Currently, approximately 70 samples have been collected, all of which tested negative. Vaccination efforts and routine sampling will continue as planned. Regarding financial compensation for animal culling and fodder, roughly 90% of payments are expected to be completed by Friday. Remaining payments will be processed next week, except for a small number of cases that faced documentation issues, specifically concerning animal labeling. These technical issues were clarified with the assistance of the Attorney General's Office, and the compensation process is proceeding normally.
