Riyad Mahrez announces retirement from international football

Riyad Mahrez has officially retired from the Algerian national team following a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the World Cup round of 32. The 35-year-old attacking midfielder, currently playing for Al-Ahli, concluded his 12-year international career with 119 caps. Throughout his tenure, he recorded 40 goals and 45 assists. His achievements include winning the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and being named African Footballer of the Year in 2016. During his final tournament, Mahrez scored two goals in a 3-3 draw against Austria. He also achieved significant club success, notably winning the Premier League with Leicester City and multiple titles, including the Champions League, with Manchester City.
