Limassol municipality and the Cyprus institute sign five-year research agreement
The Municipality of Limassol and the Cyprus Institute signed a five-year research cooperation agreement covering the period from 2026 to 2031. The document was signed by Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis and the President of the Cyprus Institute, Dr. Stavros Malas. This agreement aims to provide scientific and technical support to help Limassol achieve its goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030. The collaboration builds on previous work that helped Limassol earn a spot among Europe's 100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities and receive the EU Mission Label. The Cyprus Institute will assist with the implementation of the city's Climate Contract and the development of the municipality's first energy community. Key tasks include modeling urban energy systems, monitoring greenhouse gas emissions and air quality, and identifying social vulnerabilities and energy poverty. Additionally, the partnership seeks to facilitate the maturation of strategic projects and improve access to European and national funding.
