Cyprus labor ministry announces inspection campaign for July

The Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance of the Republic of Cyprus has launched a countrywide inspection campaign throughout July targeting the wedding and event industry. Inspectors will focus on photographers, florists, and event organizers to ensure compliance with labor laws, specifically regarding the registration of employees. Employers are required to register workers on the Ergani portal at least 24 hours before they begin employment. The inspections will also verify working conditions such as salary payments, working hours, and mandatory weekly rest periods. Fines for employing unregistered staff start at 1,000 euros per person, with an additional 500 euros for every six months of non-compliance. If a violation is repeated within two years, the fine increases to 2,000 euros, and subsequent violations can reach 3,000 euros. The ministry stated that the campaign serves both as a regulatory enforcement measure and a preventive initiative for the busy summer season.
