Meeting between Polis Chrysochous municipal officials and the Minister of Agriculture
The Mayor of Polis Chrysochous, Yiotis Papachristofi, and local municipal representatives met with the Minister of Agriculture, Maria Panayiotou, in Nicosia to discuss regional development and environmental protection projects. Regarding the Pomos fishing shelter, authorities agreed on maintenance work scheduled for the second half of 2026, alongside plans for a redesign and expansion. A coastal pedestrian path project from the campsite to Limni is being reviewed, with an on-site inspection by the Department of Environment scheduled by September 15 for necessary redesigns. Concerning the Latsi port expansion, the Ministry stated that environmental review findings and licensing opinions will be issued shortly. Additionally, the government plans to construct wave breakers or coastal protection structures in Chrysochous Bay, with specific implementation details promised within a week. Minister Panayiotou also confirmed the political decision to establish a permanent desalination plant to reduce regional dependence on groundwater. Both parties emphasized the need to balance development with the protection of Natura 2000 protected areas.
