Greenland will never be for sale, says Prime Minister Nielsen
During the 'Economic Meetings of Aix-en-Provence' held on July 4, 2026, Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stated that his country will never be for sale. Nielsen participated in a panel discussion titled 'One World, Conflicting Visions' alongside Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis and French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot. He reported that Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, has been under significant pressure from the United States for nearly two years regarding potential acquisition efforts by President Donald Trump. Nielsen emphasized that Greenland intends to prioritize cooperation with nations that share democratic values, respect for international law, and human rights. He specifically highlighted France, the European Union, and Canada as key allies that have supported Greenland during this period of geopolitical pressure. The Prime Minister underscored the potential for collaborative resource development in Greenland with these democratic partners. His remarks were met with applause from the audience during the forum.
