Journalist Roxana Guzman found dead in Veracruz, Mexico
The body of journalist Roxana Guzman, who operated a digital news outlet in Nanchital, was identified in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Guzman had been abducted from her home on June 2, 2024, an event captured in a 35-second viral video showing two masked men forcibly entering her residence with tools and rifles. Forensic analysis confirmed the remains found at a property belonged to the journalist, following reports that the perpetrators attempted to destroy the body using fuel. Authorities have arrested eight individuals in connection with the homicide, including four municipal police officers. The prosecutor's office alleges that the detained officers provided logistics, food, and resources to the criminal organization responsible for the kidnapping. While the state prosecutor's office initially led the case, the national prosecutor's office took over following public outcry. The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights has condemned the murder and demanded further action from Mexican authorities. Veracruz remains one of the most dangerous regions in Mexico for media professionals.
